On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at 5:00 P.M. (Italy), to celebrate the first centenary of the canonization of the Saint on May 13, 1920, Father Dario Di Giosia, Rector of the Shrine, will celebrate a solemn Mass, without the presence of the faithful, which will be broadcast live on facebook and youtube “Sanctuary of St. Gabriel of the Sorrows”.
Despite the coronavirus emergency, the shrine will celebrate that memorable day, May 13, 1920, when, in the solemnity of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Pope Benedict XV declared a saint Gabriel of the Sorrow Virgin. The celebration was attended by Michele Possenti, the saint’s older brother, a medical doctor, along with other relatives. Also participating was the Saint’s only surviving companion, Brother Silvestro Polidori. The ceremony began at 8 A.M. and ended at 1 P.M. Present were 40 cardinals, more than 300 bishops from all over the world and thousands of faithful.
